So, my stock Specialized Tarmac Elite Apex has been a good bike, so far.  It started out as a pretty solid bike, but at a total weight of 19.08 lbs., there was much to be desired.  If you step away from the bike and give it a once-over, the first obvious upgrade to anyone would be the wheelset.  If you can shave weight off of the parts that rotate and that you constantly have to keep propelling, it makes a bigger difference in ride quality.

It's very important to know our state's bicycle traffic laws.  After several run-ins over the last several years, where law enforcement officers are unclear on what the law actually states, we've decided to make a list of Georgia's Bicycle Laws for you to print off.  You can find the document HERE.

Instructions:  When printing, select 4 pages per sheet on your printer settings.  Cut the page into four sections and staple them together.  Read the laws, and be aware of what your rights and restrictions are.  Put the laws in your saddle bag, so you have them in the event you have to refer to them during an interaction with law enforcement.

At Out Spokin' Bicycles, our staff is not stupid enough to claim that we know everything about nutrition and training... we're better at just selling and repairing bicycles.  We decided to bring in an expert in the field of nutrition, John Gamble, CEO and Founder of Dedicated Athlete, LLC,   to give us a hand on the training front, and offer some helpful advice when it comes to providing your bike with the best engine you can for the riding/racing season.

Why is it as cyclists we tend to be more aggressive in training than racing?  I don’t know about you but it seems every time my racing was under par my training became more aggressive to make up for what I was doing on the weekends. I would go and hammer my brains out and try to prepare for upcoming events defeating the very purpose I was out there for.  Human beings are funny...

Got a story for you.  The names have been changed to protect the innocent.  Let me also say that I'm not trying to be the grumpy bike shop guy that just hates on Craigslist and eBay because they're taking away business from the bike shop.  Although those outlets do detract from bike shop sales, that's not why I'm writing this.  I'm writing this because customers are getting screwed.  Here goes...

So, this weekend, Jim brings his bike by the shop for a tune-up.  He says he got the bike on Craigslist from a local guy who was selling it because he was upgrading to something newer.  We didn’t ask too many questions, because we had seen the bike before and knew a little bit about its history.

The bike’s previous owner bought the bike from us a few years back, for a sale price of $799.  Several months later, the owner (we’ll call him Bob) brought the bike back because the non-drive...

A few weeks back, I went to the Park Tool Tech Summit, here in Atlanta.  Several major manufacturers were in attendance, offering tech clinics to mechanics, to educate them on their products and show them all the new goodies for 2012.  Some of those manufacturers included: Park Tool, Cane Creek, FSA, Shimano, Mavic, Campagnolo, SRAM, and Fox Racing Shox.

Of the manufacturers in attendance, one of the most informative and most hands-on, was the clinic by Fox Racing Shox.  Mechanics had the opportunity to disassemble a TALAS fork, learn to service the fork, and re-assemble it.  All that information was great, but it...

Over the past year, there has been a lot of negative feedback from potential customers regarding Apex, SRAM's entry/mid-level road group.  Here at Out Spokin', we have had a tough time selling bikes on the floor that are equipped with SRAM Apex.  We started asking ourselves, "Why?"  This year, Josh has decided to trade in his SRAM Rival-equipped Cannondale CAAD10 for one of our 2011 closeout bikes, a Specialized Tarmac Elite with SRAM Apex components, to see what the big deal is...
