Bicycling Magazine has featured Out Spokin's Hickory Flat Road Ride in the March 2008 Issue's "9 Great Group Rides" section!

The Hickory Flat Road Ride is a year-round, all class road ride.  The normal route is 31 miles, with shorter options available.  Our group meets at the Publix at Hickory Flat (GA Hwy 140 and E. Cherokee Dr.) around 7:45am and are usually rolling by 8am.

Beginning March 8th, we will start the 7am Beginner Ride again, from the same location.  It is a 16 mile, one hour loop, designed with beginner riders in mind.  Not too hilly, not too flat... just a comfortable loop to get the beginning road rider a little more group riding experienced before adding more distance and more hills into the mix.  We meet the 8am group before their ride, so those wanting to do both loops are welcome.  The Beginner Ride is just that.  All fast riders can ride on their own... this is for the new guys and gals.

For more information about all our awesome rides and other events, see our Events Calendar, or just come by and see us at Out Spokin' Bicycles!

NEW HICKORY FLAT ROAD RIDE GROUPS!

Our Wednesday Night Hickory Flat Road Ride (6:30 pm, every Wednesday Night) is fast becoming our favorite ride of the week!  We are having a great turnout and we have several different levels of riders showing up.  To keep the groups of riders together (rather than have riders split all among the countryside!), we now have THREE great ride options for varying speeds and skill levels!

  • "A" Group - Very experienced riders, looking for a faster, more aggressive ride/workout on a somewhat hilly/rolling course.  31 miles with an average speed at or above 19 mph
  • "B" Group - Somewhat experienced riders, looking for a moderately paced group ride while still using group riding skills and techniques.  31 miles with an average speed between 16-18 mph.
  • "C" Group - Intermediate/seasoned riders looking for a casual-paced ride without trying to break any land speed records.  31 miles with an average speed of  15-16 mph.

The "C" Group ride is somewhat slower, but not considered a beginner ride.  If you are looking for a beginner ride, we have an option for you!  Our Saturday Morning Hickory Flat Beginner Ride (7am, Saturdays) is the one for you!  We ride between 14-16 miles at a 14-16mph average.  We meet back up with the 8am Intermediate group in case there are some riders who want to do both.  At the 7am ride, we have more time to show you the ropes and introduce you to group riding and road etiquette than we do with the other rides.

For more information on any of these rides, please e-mail events@outspokinbikes.com.  See you on the road!!!

Looking for Help With Group Rides!!! - Tuesday, June 03, 2008

Our group road rides are becoming so popular that we're having some growing pains!  We're trying to get a few more folks to help chaperone the group rides, whether it be leaders, sweepers, or moderators that fall somewhere in between, we need help!

Everyone can't be around every week, so we're trying to get on a rotating schedule so we're always covered and can grow this ride to the biggest thing that has hit the area in a long while!

If you're interested in volunteering, please send an e-mail to events@outspokinbikes.com so we can get you on the e-mail list!  Thanks for all your help!

Last week at the 7am Beginner Ride, we had 19 RIDERS!!!  Most weren't beginners, but those who weren't really helped usher the beginners along!  Great job, guys!  Thanks for remembering that we all used to be in that same spot!

Hickory Flat Routes Painted on Road This Week!!! - Monday, June 02, 2008

The routes for the Hickory Flat Road Rides will be painted on the road this week.  Lance Dobbs, one of our group leaders on Wednesday nights, has taken the time to create new templates for us to use to spray the markings onto the road.

Several other riders have also stepped up to volunteer with leading groups and helping with the course markings.  We gladly appreciate any help we can get!  Thanks, again!
